E-payments let your nonprofit receive disbursements from the Givinga Foundation by ACH (Automated Clearing House) electronic transfer directly to your nonprofit’s bank account, instead of by paper check. ACH electronic transfer is also called direct deposit. Your nonprofit enrolls in e-payments from the Reports page of the Givinga Foundation Nonprofit Portal.
Why should my nonprofit enroll in e-payments?
Enrolling in e-payments gives your nonprofit the following benefits:
- Faster access to funds: The Givinga Foundation processes ACH payments within 3-5 business days after the 7-day cooling period ends, instead of mailing a paper check.
- More security: ACH payments remove the risk of a paper check being lost, stolen, or delayed in the mail.
- Less administrative work: Your nonprofit doesn’t need to process and deposit paper checks.
What do I need before enrolling in e-payments?
Before you can enroll your nonprofit in e-payments:
- You must be an Admin user. Viewer users cannot manage payment settings.
- You must complete identity verification through Stripe on the Home page of the Givinga Foundation Nonprofit Portal.
Have the following information ready, because Stripe may ask for it during enrollment:
- Your nonprofit’s EIN (Employer Identification Number).
- Your nonprofit’s bank account number and routing number.
- Business representative information, including name, email address, date of birth, and SSN (Social Security Number). Please note that the business representative can be any user on your organization's account.
- Your nonprofit’s address and contact details.
How to enroll in e-payments
To enroll your nonprofit in e-payments:
- Log in to the Givinga Foundation Nonprofit Portal at https://npo.givingafoundation.app/claim.
- In the left navigation panel, click Reports.
- In the Payment Details section of the top right-hand corner of the Reports page, click Update Payment Method. The Givinga Foundation Nonprofit Portal redirects you to Stripe Connect, the secure payment service the Givinga Foundation uses to collect banking information.
- Follow the instructions in Stripe Connect to enter your nonprofit’s banking information and business representative information.
- Submit the form in Stripe Connect.
- Wait for a confirmation email from the Givinga Foundation stating that your e-payment enrollment is approved.
What happens after my nonprofit enrolls in e-payments?
After your nonprofit’s e-payment enrollment is approved, the Givinga Foundation sends all future disbursements to your nonprofit by ACH instead of by paper check, including reissued payments. A reissued payment is a payment we need to resend due to a voided or returned check to the Givinga Foundation. The payment method shown on the Reports page updates to show e-payments (ACH). If you have a check already in the process of being mailed to your organization once the payment method is switched to ACH, that payment's check will still be valid, but all future payments will be disbursed via ACH.
In the case that you need to switch from ACH payments back to Check as your preferred payment method, please contact support@givingafoundation.org.
Why don’t I see the Update Payment Method button?
If the Update Payment Method button doesn’t appear on the Reports page, one of the following is likely the reason:
- You haven’t completed identity verification through Stripe. Complete identity verification on the Home page of the Givinga Foundation Nonprofit Portal, then return to the Reports page.
- You are a Viewer user. Only Admin users can enroll your nonprofit in e-payments. Ask an Admin user at your nonprofit to enroll in e-payments or to change your role to Admin.
What is the difference between identity verification and e-payment enrollment?
Identity verification and e-payment enrollment are two separate steps:
- Identity verification confirms the identity of the Admin user, using a government-issued photo ID. Identity verification is required before an Admin user can enroll your nonprofit in e-payments.
- E-payment enrollment confirms your nonprofit’s banking information, so the Givinga Foundation can send disbursements by ACH to your nonprofit’s bank account.
