Every Admin user must complete identity verification to get full access to the Givinga Foundation Nonprofit Portal. The Givinga Foundation uses Stripe, a third-party payment and identity verification company, to verify the identity of each Admin user.
Why does the Givinga Foundation require identity verification?
The Givinga Foundation requires identity verification for Admin users to:
- Protect nonprofits from fraud and unauthorized access to nonprofit accounts.
- Comply with financial regulations, including AML (anti-money laundering) laws.
- Make sure donations go to legitimate charitable organizations.
- Allow the Givinga Foundation to send disbursements securely and on time.
What can’t I do before completing identity verification?
Until an Admin user completes identity verification, the Admin user cannot:
- Invite, remove, or manage users.
- Update your nonprofit’s profile, such as the mission statement and contact details.
- Enroll your nonprofit in e-payments.
Your nonprofit can still receive donations before identity verification is complete.
How to verify your identity in the Givinga Foundation Nonprofit Portal
Before you can verify your identity, you must claim your nonprofit in the Givinga Foundation Nonprofit Portal. You also need a valid US government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, passport, or identity card.
To verify your identity:
- Log in to the Givinga Foundation Nonprofit Portal at https://npo.givingafoundation.app/claim.
- On the Home page, find the “Identity Verification Required” message and click Begin Verification. Stripe’s identity verification process opens in a new tab.
- Follow Stripe’s instructions using your smartphone to take a photo of the front and back of your government-issued ID, and take a photo of your face.
- After this is complete, click Submit and return to the Givinga Foundation Nonprofit Portal tab.
After Stripe verifies your identity, the Givinga Foundation sends you a confirmation email, and you get full Admin access to the Givinga Foundation Nonprofit Portal.
Do Viewer users need to verify their identity?
No. Viewer users do not need to complete identity verification. After an Admin user completes identity verification, the Admin user can invite other people at your nonprofit as Viewer users. A Viewer user has read-only access to reports and your nonprofit’s profile.
What to do if identity verification isn’t working
If you have trouble completing identity verification, check the following before contacting support:
- Your ID photo is clear. Take the photo of your ID against a plain, dark background. Make sure all information on your ID is legible and nothing on your ID is covered or redacted.
- You are using Google Chrome. Identity verification works best in the Google Chrome browser.
- You have cleared your Google Chrome cache. Old data stored in Google Chrome can interfere with identity verification.
- Allow pop-ups for the Givinga Foundation Nonprofit Portal
How to clear your cache in Google Chrome
To clear your cache in Google Chrome:
- Open Google Chrome.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+Delete on Windows, or Command+Shift+Delete on Mac.
- At the top of the window, select All time as the time range.
- Select the Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files checkboxes.
- Click Delete data.
- Close Google Chrome, reopen it, and try identity verification again.
If identity verification isn't working, was incomplete, or was rejected, contact Givinga Foundation support at support@givingafoundation.org.
